“The fastball is better than last September” LG’s native ace who survived the Icheon hell training, his confidence is growing

I came back when I really needed it. He will defend the mound reliably like he did in the second half of last year and make up for the departure of foreign ace Adam Plutko. LG’s left-handed young gun Kim Yun-sik (23) is showing off his native ace mode again after a slump in the first half of the year.스포츠토토

Kim Yun-sik threw 82 pitches in the Gwangju KIA game on the 8th, allowing 7 hits, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts, and 1 run in 5.2 innings. Like the game against Hanwha in Jamsil on the 2nd, his fastball velocity returned to normal and he actively threw strikes. He consistently got first pitch strikes with a fastball with a maximum speed of 146 km/h. Kim Yun-sik earned his fourth win of the season.

1st place LG won 2 games in a row with a 12-2 win over KIA. The season record was 70 wins, 44 losses, and 2 draws. With 7 games including a double header this week, recruiting more starting pitchers was needed more than ever, and Kim Yun-sik played a major role. Coach Yeom Kyung-yeop also said after the game, “Kim Yun-sik did his job well as a starter. I am looking forward to seeing things return to the good times and I think it will be of great help to the team. “I look forward to maintaining the current balance,” he said, applauding Kim Yun-sik.

The following is a Q&A between reporters and Kim Yun-sik after the game.

-How did you prepare for the three months in Icheon? It looks like I’ve been through hell training.

Personally, I trained with a strong mindset, and the coaches also trained me really hard. First of all, I would like to thank Coach Kyung Heon-ho, Bae Yo-han, Training Coach Kim Jong-wook, and Yoo Hyun-won. They took good care of me and gave me rigorous training. To be honest, training was very difficult, but thanks to the coaches, I was able to join the first team in good condition.

-Coach Bae Yo-han’s training has long had a reputation for being very difficult.

Yes. It’s really hard. Still, he thought he was just being fooled once and tried to follow through to the end. I followed along unconditionally with the thought that I would start building my body again from now on.

-Before he was sent down to the 2nd team, he showed serious signs, with a speed of 130 km/h in the 1st team match. I think it must have been very difficult for me at the time.

It was very frustrating. Actually, it was right for me to go down because my condition was not good, but (Lee) Minho had also gone down first, so I thought I should hold on for a while. However, it seems that it has become a vicious cycle. After I was sent down to group 2, I still thought a lot by myself and decided to become independent. Because he trained hard, he got the balance right, and now I feel like the puzzle is coming together little by little.

-What did you think when the coach told you to go down to the second team and prepare again like a camp?

Actually, I had lost a lot of weight at the time and it didn’t feel very good. At this point, I thought, let’s at least make my body good again. He thought he would exercise harder, wait a little longer, and prepare again.

-I think my confidence has grown as I have found my fastball pitch in the last two games.

Actually, I was very nervous. Just like last time against Hanwha, he went on the mound in the first inning in a nervous state today against KIA. But when I actually threw it, I felt that my ability to press the ball was much better. (Park) Dong-won also gave me a sign to just trust the ball and throw it, so I think we got good results. I would like to thank coach Kyung Heon-ho again for creating a good balance.

  • KIA’s batting lineup has been amazing recently. How did you prepare?

It was really scary, with KIA hitters targeting NC Pedi not long ago. So, I just decided to let go and stick with it. And looking at the Jamsil game, the pace was slowing down a bit. So I thought it was time to come down. I think I got lucky.

-Did you train so hard from the first day you went down to Icheon?

It was very difficult psychologically at that time. I couldn’t sleep well. I was under a lot of stress. Every time I felt good, I would watch the video again and calm myself down. As I trained hard, I thought to myself what the problem was, and problems began to appear one by one. I wrote it all down so I could go back quickly when things got bad again. I think this note will be very helpful to me.

-Can you tell me what was the problem with balance?

It was pushed forward too quickly. I couldn’t keep my balance behind me and throw, so I fell in a hurry as if my body was tilted. Hitters also said that they can see their arms well because they only come out in front.

-Was there definitely an effect on WBC?

I can’t say it doesn’t exist, but I think it’s just an excuse. I don’t want to use that as an excuse, and I want to continue to do well based on that experience in the future. I think it was a good experience for the future.

-It was really huge last September. Is that feeling coming back? (September 2022, 5 games, 3 wins, 0.31 ERA)

The fastball actually seems to be better than before. My balance is not yet at that level, but I think it will get better as I continue to regain confidence.

-When I was in the 2nd team, Choi Won-tae joined through a trade. I think it must have been psychologically difficult because the starting rotation was full.

It would be a lie if I said I wasn’t conscious of it. However, because my balance was not good, there was no way I could go to the first team in that condition. My biggest thought was to just somehow find my balance.

-I vividly remember pitching well against Ahn Woo-jin in the fall baseball game last year. I think there are expectations for this year’s fall baseball postseason.

I don’t think I can hope for that in my current position. Entry cannot be guaranteed. Instead, I want to continue to show good performance in the remaining games of the regular season. I want to help us win the regular season, even from now on.

-Are you thinking about the moment when first place in the regular season is confirmed?

I haven’t done it yet. When that moment comes, I think it will truly be a moment I will remember for the rest of my life. I try not to be conscious of it, but I’m looking forward to it.
